VCU requires each fraternity and sorority to have a chapter advisor to guide, support, and monitor the progress of the chapter and its officers. Expectations for chapter advisors include being skilled in organizational and leadership development and proficiency in individual organizational policy and interpretation. Chapter advisors devote significant time to the chapter and it is through committed alumni and alumnae support that chapters achieve their greatest success.
In addition, many national and international fraternities and sororities require that a corporation board be formed for each collegiate chapter. The corporation board serves as the legal entity in matters relating to the personal and legal property of the chapter. A corporation board is beneficial in that it provides continuity as it will exist despite the occasional changes in those who manage it.
